Here at SafeUKation we support the need for local council registers so that holiday lets can be monitored to not only ensure the safety of the guests but to also protect residents living in the vicinity of them and the landlords. Our platform offers landlords help to easily promote their rental business and protect their property portfolio by uploading their safety compliance documents. Local councils can search for properties on our database to ensure landlords are safety compliant, but local authorities and the Government need to make this mandatory to ensure it works. This issue was recently highlighted at an event attended by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
During a Q&A session on antisocial behaviour in Chelmsford where he was launching a £160 million package for proposed reforms, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was cornered by an angry resident fed up with an Airbnb in his hometown being used for noisy parties.
As he took questions at the local community centre, the PM faced anger from residents who were sick of seeing short-term holiday lets being used for weekend parties and asked the PM to ensure new rules were applied to stop such antisocial behaviour.
The PMs anti-social behaviour action plan outlines a proposed council register of such holiday lets, so that 'if a let proves problematic, they can take action against guests and owners'. SafeUKation provides this service.
Referencing noise problems, drunken behaviour and disorderly conduct, the plan promises the creation of a new registration scheme that would provide local councils with the data to identify short-term lets in the local area.
